The earth building booklet is a communication tool designed to raise awareness of contemporary earth construction. Its purpose is to give architects and engineers reliable and practical knowledge, presented in a compact and visually engaging way. By making the material freely available, the project aims to inspire wider use of earth as a sustainable building material and strengthen its role in architectural and engineering practice.
Architects, (structural) engineers, students
The booklet is developed in a collaborative, interdisciplinary process. Voluntary professionals from offices, universities and practice contribute their expertise. The approach combines systematic research, knowledge sharing and design skills to distill complex topics into accessible formats. All content goes through an open review process. It is published as a free resource and will be continuously updated to stay relevant and useful for everyday planning.
Act consciously – through promotion/ normalization of a sustainable building material
Open & inclusively – collaborative development and free publication
Rethink critically – strengthen earth as an alternative to conventional building materials
Show attitude – advocate for resource-efficient, healthy construction
Prioritize sustainability – focus on ecological materials, circularity, regionality
The earth building booklet is currently being developed in terms of content. We are looking for committed individuals who would like to contribute to various topics such as construction methods, design, material selection and dimensioning or who would like to provide support as technical reviewers. Support is also welcome for the graphic design, so you don’t necessarily need to be familiar with earth building to help us. Please feel free to contact us and get involved. We look forward to get to know your perspectives and expertise!
To reach the widest possible audience, we provide not only a digital version but also a free print edition after publication. The print edition is mainly financed through donations.
We work on our projects on a voluntary and non-profit basis. To share the costs for layout, printing, and shipping in solidarity, we welcome your financial support and contribution.
